Can You Still Get Home Genetics Kits?
Yes, but there are cautions
Genetics testing kits have become a popular new way of understanding the human genome, and susceptibility to diseases. Home DNA test kits are also suddenly more popular, and they are used for everything from paternity to disease detection. There are even genetics testing kits for dogs to show whether you have a purebred canine or a mutt who happens to be a clever impostor. Recently Walgreens wanted to sell a genetics test kit but chose not to do so when the FDA asked questions about whether they qualified as medical devices, even though the testing is done at a lab somewhere else. There are some questions about the quality of the reading, and whether a single gene is responsible for a condition.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: No genetics testing kits or DNA paternity test kits are sold on this site. Only a qualified geneticist can analyze your risk factors correctly, so do not take a test at face value until you are sure. You may need a second opinion!
